Capri provided a breathtaking setting for the principal photography of BLIND LIGHT. To capture in an abstract way the personality and perceptions of the enigmatic Munthe, we filmed in Sweden. We went first to the small town of Leksand, where Munthe had built a house modeled on his childhood home, and then in Stockholm, where he lived during his final years in a chamber of the Royal Palace, as a guest of the King.
Death Valley in California
provided poetic imagery which on a non-verbal level represented movements
within the characters' inner lives. The opening shot is time lapse photography
of sunrise over Zabriskie Point in the Valley,
rife with the cinematic reference to Antonioni's
classic film.
